What is a WA White Card?

• A White Card is Australia’s general construction induction training card. In WA it is commonly requested before you can work on construction sites.
• It is basic safety induction, not a trade licence. Having a White Card does not make you licensed as an electrician, plumber, gas fitter or builder.
• Employers, builders and labour hire firms may ask for your card or certificate before you start.

How it compares with Safe Pass

• If you worked construction in Ireland, the closest comparison is Safe Pass. Both are basic construction safety induction requirements.
• They are not the same card. Treat Safe Pass as useful background knowledge, not as proof that you meet WA site induction requirements.
• If a Perth employer asks for a White Card, clarify whether they require the Australian card before your start date.

How to get one

• White Card training is usually completed through a registered training organisation. Check that the training is accepted for WA before paying.
• You may be able to complete training before applying for site roles, but make sure the provider and course match current WA requirements.
• Keep a digital copy and physical card or certificate where you can find it quickly.

What it does not cover

• It does not replace electrical licensing, plumbing licensing, gas fitting authorisations, high-risk work licences or employer site inductions.
• FIFO and construction employers may still ask for medicals, police clearance, drug and alcohol screening, working at heights, confined space or machinery tickets.
